PINE-Apple

Mei Yoke once had me think of a quaver-semiquaver-semiquaver rhythm as "Pine-apple, Pine-apple". I couldn't stop laughing. Anyway, the supermarket here sells fresh pineapples and papaya. I couldn't resist. Although, they need to learn to sell slightly less ripe pineapples. They're advertised as picked at the peak of ripeness - bad idea.

Some shots from the 4th of July fireworks in Chicago, as seen from Brian's apartment on North Harbor [sic] Drive.

And the jam caused by them...

From Millennium Park:

These fountainy things that light up at night, and display faces that indulge in slightly impolite behaviour -

And the Chicago Bean -

There's a slightly more surreal shot of that in the album, which you can get to if you click the top picture in this post. It's the kind of image you see shortly before you pass out from standing in the sun for too long. Not that I was, or anything. At one point there was a seagull sitting on top of the bean. It resembled a slightly disproportionate incubator.

The first time I saw those fountains I burst out laughing. You'd never see public art like that in Singapore. Promoting spitting - how anti-social!

Also I think it's great that it was designed for the water to flow into an open space for kids to splash and play in. One difference between developed and undeveloped countries IMHO is that the authorities in developed countries trust their citizens - you don't have to put fences around everything.
